If you enjoy mysteries intertwined with family drama and emotion, then you will love The Last Anniversary (2025), based on the novel by Liane Moriarty.

In 1898, Harriet Morrow has just been hired as an investigator at the Prescott Detective Agency in downtown Chicago. She is given a week to find Agnes Wozniak, a maid who has disappeared from the home of her employer, Pearl Bartlett. Harriet starts by delving into the life of Agnes and whose paths would have crossed Agnes', since Agnes worked six days a week and only had Wednesdays off. In addition, many of Harriet's fellow detectives and the secretaries at the Prescott Agency resent Harriet's presence there, making her job even tougher.

I really enjoyed the first season of the British TV series, Outrageous, which follows the scandal-plagued Mitford family, especially the 6 sisters: Nancy, Pamela, Diana, Unity, Jessica, and Deborah.

In Winging It With You (2025) by Chip Pons, Asher Bennett and his boyfriend are on their way to compete on the fictional, Amazing Race-inspired reality show The Epic Trek when Asher’s boyfriend abruptly dumps him in the middle of the airport.

Her quiet life, mostly consisting of church social events, is upended when a documentary filmmaker knocks on her door and asks to interview her about her past, when she was “wrongfully” accused of murder many years ago.

In this romantic dramedy, Naveen and Jay meet, date, fall in love, and plan to marry. But Naveen has never brought anyone home to meet his South Asian family, and especially not a white man. Full of laugh-out-loud and tender moments, misunderstandings and redeeming actions, A Nice Indian Boy (2024) will tug on your heartstrings while calling back to classic Bollywood tropes.

Katherine Arden's most recent novel, The Warm Hands of Ghosts (2024), expanded my understanding of what a novel dealing with an actual historical event can do.

The first in the Secret Staircase mystery series features magician Tempest Raj after her career implodes.
