Outrageous (TV Series)

I really enjoyed the first season of the British TV series, Outrageous, which follows the scandal-plagued Mitford family, especially the 6 sisters: Nancy, Pamela, Diana, Unity, Jessica, and Deborah. In the aftermath of the financial crash of 1929, the Mitford family lives in genteel poverty as they struggle to hold on to their ancestral estate. The increasingly tense political atmosphere of the 1930s threatens to tear the family apart as married Diana begins an affair with a fascist politician, Unity becomes enamored with Adolf Hitler while studying abroad in Germany, and Jessica wants to join the communists fighting in the Spanish Civil War. The series has an upbeat tone despite the heavy subject matter and shows why this family continues to be of interest today. To read more about the family, check out The Mitford Affair (2023) by Marie Benedict (fiction) or The Six: The Lives of the Mitford Sisters (2016).
