The Scammer by Tiffany D. Jackson

When Jordyn first arrives at Frasier, a prestigious Black university, she instantly finds belonging among her new roommates and classmates. She used to live in a predominately white town, and being at Frasier means she doesn't feel like the outsider anymore. Things are going well-- up until Devonte, Jordyn's roommate's older brother, arrives. Recently out of prison for credit card fraud he claims he was framed for, he asks to stay at the girls' dorm to get back on his feet. At first, Devonte seems charming and alluring, amazing the girls with his seemingly all-knowing-wisdom. But Jordyn soon learns that Devonte might not be what he seems, and he's pulling all of them deeper into a rabbit hole of scams and lies.

Tiffany D. Jackson is the master at crafting a thriller. I've read most of her books (I think about Monday's Not Coming on a regular basis, and I read it over five years ago) and every time, I am amazed. The Scammer is no exception. I finished this book within two days, and my jaw was on the floor for most of it. If you want a fast-paced read full of twists and turns that also masterfully tackles tougher topics through a teen lens, this book is for you!
