The Murder at World’s End by Ross Montgomery

The Murder at World’s End by Ross Montgomery is a quirky murder mystery set in Cornwall during the Halley’s Comet panic of 1910. The Viscount of Tithe Hall is one of the believers in the comet bringing forth the apocalypse, and insists that everyone, including his guests and staff, be sealed up tight in the house during the celestial event. When the Viscount ends up being murdered, spirited octogenarian Ms. Decima (picture Violet Crawley from Downton Abbey but with a very foul mouth) and new second footman (and recently released from prison) Steven Pike team up to solve the murder before Steven is wrongly arrested for the crime. If you’re looking for a light-hearted murder mystery filled with sly humor, you will enjoy this one very much. The audio version really brings the story alive, with the narrator creating distinct voices for many of the characters. Murder at World’s End is the first book in a new series, and I can’t wait to read the next one!
