You’ll want to put on a cozy Icelandic sweater and have a cup of tea next to you while reading Death on the Island (2025), an atmospheric mystery. A group of international figures, including a Canadian diplomat and his entourage, a politician, the owner of a high-profile fishing company, and an artist, all gather for dinner in a tiny village on an island off the coast of Iceland. By the end of the dinner, one of the guests is dead, and as a storm rolls in and strands everyone on the island, secrets must be uncovered and the crime solved before the killer strikes again. Fans of Agatha Christie will especially enjoy this Nordic noir version of a locked-room mystery. An interesting backstory of this novel is that the author, Eliza Reid, served in the unofficial role of First Lady of Iceland from 2016 to 2024, lending an air of authenticity to the diplomatic/political side of the story.
