Our Reimagined Outdoor Space
The West Plaza is currently closed and under construction due to much-needed repairs. In 2022, the library worked with the City of Wheaton to apply for a federal grant to fund a replacement project for the West Plaza.
The grant application stated: The funding would rehabilitate the entrance of the library and expand it; allowing a greater number of outdoor events that provide additional opportunities for residents to engage with and use services provided by the Wheaton Library. When not in use for outdoor events, this space would function as an extension of the library's existing cafe and serve as an outdoor reading and social area for visitors.
In 2023, the Wheaton Public Library was awarded a $750,000 federal community project funding grant secured by U.S. Congressman Sean Casten for the West Plaza Replacement Project. The grant is managed through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which oversees the disbursement of grant funds. Construction is being completed by VMC Via Meridian Contractors.
