We Would Never (2025) by Tova Mirvis is a dark family drama inspired by an infamous 2014 murder in Tallahassee, Florida involving feuding ex-spouses and toxic family members. In the fictionalized story, Hailey and Jonah Gelman are going through a bitter divorce and fighting constantly over custody of their daughter. Hailey’s family, especially her mother, would like Hailey and her granddaughter to move back to southern Florida from Maine, where Jonah has a position at a university. Jonah refuses to allow the move, and soon Hailey’s mother and brother feel that they must intervene in order for their family to be together, even if it leads to murder. The story does not focus as much on the murder and police investigation, but more on Hailey and her family, and the family dynamics that could lead to such dark actions. We Would Never is perfect for fans of true crime and psychological dramas, especially ones dealing with twisted family dynamics.
