I really enjoyed Jennette McCurdy’s 2022 memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, so I was excited to read her fiction debut, Half His Age (2026). From the unflinching beginning paragraph, McCurdy draws you into the world of 17-year-old Waldo, a disadvantaged high school student living in Anchorage, Alaska, who soon develops an infatuation with her creative writing teacher, Mr. Korgy. What follows is a graphic, uncomfortable, darkly funny account of people making very bad decisions.
