Program Description

Event Details

This presentation explores how and why Irish communities took root across the Great Lakes region in the Midwest—from Chicago to Detroit to Cleveland to Milwaukee, and smaller lake-port and inland farm towns—shaped by global events, border crossings through Canada, and shifting political boundaries before and after U.S. statehood. This talk connects immigration waves, settlement patterns, and lived experiences across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Ontario to help researchers place Irish ancestors in their full historical context.

Co-sponsored by the DuPage County Genealogical Society.
