Discover Family History

Now a FamilySearch affiliate library

Learn about our Genealogy collections
The Genealogy Center, located on the second floor, has an extensive collection of genealogy material including print and online sources, microfilm and microfiche. From locating Civil War ancestors to learning about DuPage County and Wheaton history, the library has a wide variety of resources. You can start from home by searching some of our genealogy databases. Others such as Ancestry Library Edition and American Ancestors are available only within the library.

Search Assistance
If family history is one big puzzle, bring your questions to a volunteer on the first and third Wednesdays at 1 PM or Thursday evenings at 7 PM. No appointment needed.

Explore FamilySearch, Cook County records and DNA during our March and April genealogy classes. Sign up online or call us at 630-868-7520.

Stop by, browse our collection, bring your laptop or use one of ours (from the Tech Center), get a cup of coffee from Café on the Park, get comfortable and start searching!

Wheaton Public Library is now a FamilySearch affiliate library!

FamilySearch affiliate libraries have privileges through an agreement with FamilySearch to offer limited-access FamilySearch databases. The databases are viewable only within the library. When searching from outside the library, some databases show an icon with a key above a camera lens, indicating they are locked to the user. Affiliate status allows us to offer access to many of these extensive, locked records.

Use the library computers or your own laptop in the library to access these additional digital records. A Wheaton Public Library card is not needed to use our computers or Wi-Fi. As with other FamilySearch records, they may be printed, saved to your Source Box or cut, pasted and saved.

TIP: Make a note of the key-and-camera icons you find in your 2 AM searches. Put them in your Source Box and pull them up the next time you’re at the library!
