Changes to eContent Providers

Changes are effective January 1, 2019

Length of checkout time changes from 21 days to 14 days
Hold pickup period changes from 3 days to 2 days
The eReadIllinois program changed the checkout and hold pickup times in Axis360 to maximize the availability of popular materials. You can still renew items if no one is waiting.

RBDigital Magazines and Flipster

Some subscriptions moved from RBDigital to Flipster
You may have noticed some of your favorite magazines like Martha Stewart Living and Better Homes and Gardens are no longer available from RBDigital. Coming in January, you'll find them on Flipster along with Consumer Reports and People. RBdigital no longer has the rights to magazines published by Meredith Corporation. New on RBDigital: Cottage Journal, Country Woman, Garden Gate, Oxygen, Popular Woodworking and Simple & Delicious. New on Flipster: Better Homes & Gardens, Do It Yourself, Family Circle, Martha Stewart Living, Pioneer Woman and Shape.

Hoopla service cancelled
Hoopla is a pay-per-use service in which the library is charged for each checkout. Charges range from $.99 to $3.99 depending on the item checked out. Hoopla use has increased each year since we offered the service in 2015 which means the cost has continued to rise. In an effort to keep costs manageable we removed titles from the online catalog and lowered the monthly checkouts to 3 per user. However, the annual cost is still not feasible within the current WPL budget. The library would pay more than $52,000 per year for 900 Hoopla users per month, compared to $8,000 per year for 1,200 OverDrive users per month.

WPL isn't eliminating digital material from the collection but maximizing the use of taxpayer dollars. Instead of budgeting for Hoopla in 2019, additional funds were allocated to purchase audiobooks and ebooks from OverDrive, Axis360 and RBdigital. While these three services offer popular authors which may require placing holds, they also have hundreds of titles "available now" ready to be checked out.
