Wireless Access Policy

The Wheaton Public Library is pleased to offer free access to the Internet via a wireless network throughout the entire building. The Library provides wireless service to expand access to Internet information sources and services, including the Library catalog and databases. Specifications for accessing the network are available at all service desks. By choosing to use the Library’s WiFi service, the user agrees to the Wireless Access Policy (below).

  1. Persons utilizing the wireless connection agree to comply with all relevant Library rules, regulations and policies, including but not limited to the Rules and Prohibited Activities sections of the Internet Use Policy which is incorporated by reference herein.

  2. The Library’s wireless network is not secure, and the Library cannot guarantee the safety of traffic across its wireless network. Use of the wireless connection is done at the user’s own risk. By using this connection, users acknowledge that security errors and hacking are an inherent risk associated with any wireless service. For that reason, users expressly agree that they knowingly assume such risk, and further agree to hold the Library harmless from any claim or loss arising out of, or related to, any such instance of hacking or other unauthorized use or access into the user’s computer.

  3. The Library accepts no responsibility for any software downloaded and/or installed, email opened, or sites accessed on the wireless Internet connection. Any damage done to equipment for any reason including, but not limited to, viruses, identity theft, spyware, plug-ins or other Internet-borne programs is the sole responsibility of the user; and the user indemnifies and holds harmless the Library from any such damage.

  4. The Library’s wireless Internet access is filtered as specified in the Library’s Filtering Policy.

  5. The Library accepts no responsibility regarding the ability of user owned equipment to connect to the wireless network.

  6. Library staff cannot provide technical assistance on using the Library’s Internet network.

  7. The library reserves the right to limit bandwidth on a per connection basis on the wireless network, as necessary, to ensure network reliability and fair sharing of network resources for all wireless users.
