Disaster, Courage & Silence Exhibit
The
ships taking Western Electric employees, their friends and families, on
a company outing never left the docks of the Chicago River. Onlookers
watched in disbelief as the SS Eastland capsized right before their eyes.
Step back to that fateful day in the summer of 1915 and hear the stories
of survivors, victims, heroes and witnesses at this fascinating exhibit.
See the recreated wheel house of the SS Eastland and the Uncle Sam suit
that saved the life of one of the passengers.
This captivating exhibit looks at the people and the
ship that made maritime history. While 844 people lost their lives that
July 24, there are countless stories of bravery, heroism and chance good
luck.
