The Wheaton Public Library is an Accessible Local Library, providing a number of services to persons with physical disabilities. All assistive technology is available for use by anyone who needs special assistance in accessing the full range of library services and resources.

Resources for Visually-Impaired Persons
- Specially-adapted computer for persons with visual impairments available in the Reference Area. This workstation is set for screen magnification of our catalog and subscription databases.
- CCTV magnifies materials by 50X, easy to use with color and auto-focus.
- Large type books and magazines.
- Slanted lower shelves in Large Type for easier reading.
- Books on cassette and CD.
- Information on Library of Congress Braille, talking book, and descriptive video service.
- Magnifying glass available at the Reference Desk.
- SARA: Scanning And Reading Appliance* reads books, magazines, newspapers, audiobook CDs and more in human-sounding synthesized speech. You listen using noise-reducing headphones.*
Resources for Hard-of-Hearing Persons

- Sound amplification system in meeting room.
- Closed-captioned videos and DVDs.
- Sign language interpreters provided for Library programs with 72-hour advance notice.
Resources for Mobility-Limited Persons
- Home delivery of material.
- Library is located on public transportation routes.
- Fully accessible building with electronically operated front door, wheelchair-accessible telephone, drinking fountain, restrooms, and elevators.
- Information service by telephone, e-mail and live chat.
- Telephone and online reserves of material.
- Databases available from home or office.
- Light pen and RollerMouse Pro available to use instead of a mouse on the specially-adapted computer in the Reference area.
Resources for Children with Special Needs
- Children's books in braille.
- Large type children's books.
- Children's books on cassette and CD.
- Visits to the Library by special education classrooms encouraged with prior arrangement.
- Participation in scheduled story hours and other programs welcomed.
- Listening station.*

- Assistance in the use of the Library and its resources.
- Training in the use of the computer.
